WHEREAS, A Child Is Missing (ACIM) was established as a Non- Profit organization funded by private donations, corporations, private grants and foundations to assist law enforcement agencies in the location and recovery of missing children, elderly and disabled persons; and
WHEREAS, ACIM, recently received an appropriation from the Florida Legislature which will allow them to expand the existing program in Dade and Broward Counties to law enforcement agencies in 29 counties by the end of 2000 and the entire state by the end of 2001 or sooner; and
WHEREAS, the ACIM program, utilizing automatic dialers, recorded messages and other technology will supplement the actions taken by law enforcement agencies to locate missing children, elderly and disabled persons; and
WHEREAS, use of the ACIM program, coupled with the traditional actions of law enforcement will make businesses and residents, in the immediate area from which a person is missing, aware and watchful for the person; and
WHEREAS, the supplemental efforts of the ACIM program promise to substantially increase awareness of missing children, elderly and disabled persons thereby increasing the possibility that these missing persons are located; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED THAT, the Florida Police
Chiefs Association supports the "A CHILD IS MISSING" (ACIM) program. Futher,
the Association encourages local law enforcement agencies to utilize ACIM services.
