WHEREAS, the members
of the Florida Police Chiefs Association seek to enhance the safety and security of the
millions of people who live, work and play in the State of Florida, and
WHEREAS, the Florida Police Chiefs Association fosters the highest degree of
police professionalism and competence and encourages cooperation and collaboration amongst
all levels of law enforcement and criminal justice agencies, and
WHEREAS, the utilization of advancing technology enables law enforcement and
other criminal justice agencies to enhance and improve the delivery of police services to
their respective communities, and
WHEREAS, Florida's CrimeTrax project has successfully demonstrated that the
use of global positioning satellite system combined with automated crime mapping provides
law enforcement, corrections and other criminal justice agencies with an effective means
to deter, detect and prevent criminal activity, and
WHEREAS, respected leaders throughout the criminal justice system, impressed by
the technological applications of the CrimeTrax Program and potential, advocate the
expansion and scope of the program, and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Florida Police Chiefs Association strongly
supports Federal funding of the Florida CrimeTrax Project in order to expand this
innovative and effective program which will enhance public safety.
Passed and adopted this 30th day of June, 2002, in Hollywood, Florida, at a duly
constituted meeting of the Board of Directors of the Florida Police Chiefs Association.
