Resolution 2003-1, supporting the establishment of a higher standard of education for
individuals seeking to be employed and certified as police officers in the State of Florida.
WHEREAS, the
Association is committed to enhancing the quality of life and safety of the millions of
people who live, work and play in the State of Florida; and
WHEREAS, the Association is committed to improving the effectiveness of law
enforcement throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, the Association is aware that many law enforcement agencies throughout
the state and nation have increased their educational standards and require that police
officer applicants possess a degree from an institute of higher learning; and
WHEREAS, the Association recognizes that numerous studies have shown that there
are significant differences in the performance of individuals who have completed courses
of higher education.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Florida Police Chiefs Association strongly
supports the establishment of a higher standard of education for individuals seeking to be
employed and certified as police officers in the State of Florida.
Passed and adopted this 12th day of January, 2003, in St. Augustine, Florida, at a duly
constituted meeting of the Board of Directors of the Florida Police Chiefs Association.
