Resolution 2003-2, supporting a Resolution Adopting a "Community Policing" Philosophy.
WHEREAS, the Florida
Police Chiefs Association has adopted the philosophy of "Community Policing" as the
cornerstone for policing in the community; and,
WHEREAS,the goals of Community Policing are to address issues of crime control,
crime prevention, neighborhood decay, disorder and fear of victimization through a
problem-solving approach whereby the community accepts a share of the responsibility for
crime in the community and develops a method of solving crime and community problems in a
partnership environment; and,
WHEREAS, Community Policing can only work with the partnership and cooperation of
all entities; and,
WHEREAS, "partnerships" are a cooperative effort involving affected participants
from government, neighborhoods, social and civic groups, education and religious
affiliations to identify, analyze and solve problems.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Florida Police Chiefs Association hereby adopts
the philosophy of "Community Policing" as a philosophy and means for providing the highest
quality law enforcement services in order to enhance public safety; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Florida Police Chiefs Association encourages all
affected participants from government, neighborhoods, social and civic organizations,
education and religious affiliations to assist their local law enforcement agency as
partners in the identification, analysis and solving of community crime-related and
quality-of-life related problems.
Passed and adopted this 12th day of January, 2003, in St. Augustine, Florida, at a duly
constituted meeting of the Board of Directors of the Florida Police Chiefs Association.
