Resolution 2003-4: Urging Governor Bush and
the 2003 Legislature to adequately fund Law Enforcement Programs offered by Community Colleges.
WHEREAS, the
Association is committed to enhancing the quality of life and safety of the millions of
people who live, work and play in the State of Florida; and
WHEREAS, public safety is largely dependent on the availability of a
well-educated work force; and
WHEREAS, the Law Enforcement Training Academies provided by Community Colleges
throughout the State of Florida have heretofore effectively developed and produced quality
law enforcement officers; and
WHEREAS, funding for Community Colleges statewide has not been equitable nor
has it kept pace with enrollment and program demands. Moreover, funding for critically
needed law enforcement, corrections and other workforce programs have been substantially
reduced while enrollments and program performance have increased, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED THAT, the membership of the Florida Police
Chiefs Association strongly encourages Governor Jeb Bush and members of the 2003
Legislature to fund Community Colleges at a level which will allow them to continue
to meet the needs of the students enrolled in law enforcement programs in order to
effectively prepare them for service to their agencies, their communities and the
State of Florida.
PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 12th DAY OF MAY 2003, by the Executive Board of the
Florida Police Chiefs Association.
