
A resolution supporting a Florida Community Traffic Safety Team, Traffic Safety Campaign and it's efforts to reduce the number of crashes, injuries and deaths on the streets and highways of Florida.
WHEREAS, the Florida Police Chief Association is committed to improving the effectiveness of law enforcement throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, the Association is furthermore committed to enhancing the quality of life and safety of the millions of people who live, work and play in the State of Florida; and
WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the Association to inform their citizens of issues which would enhance their safety and the safety of their children; and
WHEREAS, nearly 250,000 crashes occurred in Florida in 1996 taking the lives of 2,806 people; and
WHEREAS, drinking and driving is one of the most deadly factors on Florida's roadways which contributed to 944 deaths and 22,744 injuries in 1996; and
WHEREAS, many lives could have been saved with the proper use of safety belts and shoulder harnesses as over 63% of Florida's fatal crash victims were not wearing seat belts; and
WHEREAS, speeding is found to be a factor in nearly 20% of all automobile fatalities; and
WHEREAS, Winners Do IT! is a traffic safety campaign of the Florida Community Traffic Safety programs which combines public awareness and education targeting safety belt usage, speeding, and drinking and driving to make Florida's roadways safer.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED THAT, the Florida Police Chiefs Association supports Winners Do IT! A Florida Community Traffic Safety Team, Traffic Safety Campaign and it's efforts to reduce the number of crashes, injuries and deaths on the streets and highways of Florida.
PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 15th DAY OF JUNE 1998, by the Board of Directors of the Florida Police Chiefs Association, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
