Representative Sandy Adams Receives Legislative Award

Award PhotoOn Monday, June 30, 2003, the Florida Police Chiefs Association presented Representative Sandy Adams with a Legislative Award in recognition of her achievements during the 2003 Legislative Session. The presentation took place at the Rosen Centre Hotel, Orlando, Florida, during the Association's annual Summer Conference.

During the 2003 Session, her first in the Florida Legislature, Representative Adams sponsored one bill embodying a Florida Police Chiefs Association issue. That bill, House Bill 967, was designed to preserve important evidence in cases of motor vehicle and title fraud. Due to the extraordinary efforts of Representative Adams, and in spite of numerous difficulties, the bill passed in the House of Representatives. Unfortunately, it died in committee in the Senate. Two other bills of Representative Adams passed both houses of the Legislature. One provided a public records exemption for photographs of sexual assault victims, and the other provided for regulation of establishments involved in the collection of blood. She was also instrumental in helping to maintain adequate state funding for the Violent Crime and Drug Control Council. In what many persons characterized as a very difficult Session, Representative Adams was very successful with her chosen issues, due in large part to the hard work and dedication she displayed each day during this period.

Representative Adams came to the Florida Legislature after serving with distinction as a law enforcement officer with the Orange County, Florida, Sheriffs Office. Her concerns for public safety and support for law enforcement officers and agencies are reflected in her work on various House Committees. Some of the committees she served on were the House Committee on Public Safety and Crime Prevention (Vice Chair), the Criminal Justice Subcommittee, Subcommittee on Highway Safety, and the Subcommittee on Public Safety Appropriations.
