INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Spring 2000
The
Florida Police Chiefs Association in cooperation with Florida State University launched
its College Internship Program (CIP) in the Spring of 2000. The program exposes students to
current criminal justice issues and allows them to work on projects in cooperation
with police chiefs and their administrations throughout Florida.
Genny Widman was the first intern to
participate in this collaboration between the FPCA and the University. As a senior at
Florida State, majoring in Criminology, minoring in Psychology, Ms. Widman spent 15 weeks
interning with the FPCA.
Genny was raised and attended school in
Nyssa, Oregon. In 1995, she accompanied her family when they moved to Albany, Georgia. She
then attended Darton College in Albany until two years ago when she transferred to Florida
State University where she was an active member of Lambda Alpha Epsilon (the Criminology
Fraternity). Ms. Widman participated in the FPCA's Mid-Winter Conference held in St.
Augustine in January. She graduated with a B.S. in Criminology in May, married, and now
lives in Idaho.
Fall 2000
Following the lead of the first intern Genny Widman, the new intern will update the Model Policy Center files
(researched and created by Ms. Widman) and begin research for other projects pertaining
to our new technology center. Annalise Sankar has been selected to intern with the Florida
Police Chiefs Association for 16 weeks. She is a double major in Criminology and
General Communication.
A senior at Florida State University, Annalise has a high academic
standing and is on the dean's list. Raised in Trinidad in the West Indies, she moved to
Tampa, Florida in 1994. Annalise attended Hillsborough Community College where she served
a term as Vice President of Finance for Phi Chi, a chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors
Fraternity and received her Associate of Arts degree in Mass Communication. She transferred
to Florida State University where she decided to also major in Criminology. Annalise enjoys
working out, writing poetry and drawing.
Annalise is very enthusiastic about working with
the Florida Police Chiefs Association in collaboration with the University. She has already
spent a week working with the Executive Seminar held in early October for new police chiefs
coordinated by FDLE'S Criminal Justice Executive Institute and hosted by FPCA. She looks
forward to gaining insight into the criminal justice system from this internship experience. Upon graduation,
Annalise intends to pursue a career in law enforcement and will seek
employment with a federal agency.
