Purdue Pharma
FREE Training and Support Services for LE
Contact: Richard Zenuch
Phone: 203-912-7812
Purdue Pharma L.P., a manufacturer of
controlled substance medications, offers FREE training and support services to law
enforcement in their efforts to reduce abuse and diversion of prescription drugs. The
Law Enforcement Liaison and Education unit (LELE) is comprised of former law enforcement
officers with experience in policy development and investigations involving prescription
drugs. Purdue conducts free training classes in conjunction with local law enforcement
hosts throughout the country.
Topics include:
- A review of the most commonly abused drugs
- Federal and state laws pertaining to prescribing
- Common diversion schemes and scams
- Pharmacy crime and RxPatrol
- Case studies
Purdue is a strong partner with the
National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI), FBI LEEDA, the IACP, and
many state and local narcotics officer associations. Purdue can present up to a full day
of training to law enforcement. They need sufficient scheduling lead time, a local
program coordinator, minimal AV equipment and a minimum of 25-30 officers in the audience.
There is no maximum number. The host agency is typically asked to invite other agencies
in close proximity to increase attendance and networking among participants. The LELE
Unit also provides training to health care practitioners on their roles in reducing
diversion. It is often helpful to have a separate additional training for health care
providers in your community. The creation of a partnership between health care providers
and law enforcement can greatly assist in addressing the problems of prescription drug
abuse and diversion.
Please contact Rick Zenuch, a former
Florida law enforcement officer and now training director for Purdue, if interested in
hosting a program or learning about Purdue's other programs.
