A Very Busy Summer and Fall

As the year 2012 is winding down, plans are being made for our Mid -Winter Training Conference, January 13-15, 2013, at the Renaissance World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida. Executive Director Amy Mercer and the FPCA staff, along with Chief Dorene Thomas and the Professional Standards Committee, have been very busy preparing for another great training conference.

Goals and Achievements

The summer 2011 publication of The Florida Police Chief magazine contained my first President’s Corner message to the membership. In that message I used a phrase that is attributed to Henry Ford, “If you think you can or if you think you can’t, you’re right”. Well I stepped out and said “I think we can”. The remainder of the message contained the key characteristics of the Florida Police Chiefs Association that gave me the confidence to make that claim. We set our goals to be accomplished during my term in office using our strategic plan as our frame work. We then worked the plans strategies. So how did we do? Here are a few highlights.

Mid-Winter Conference a Success

The Mid-Winter Conference was a huge success. I am very grateful for the work our Executive Director Amy Mercer, Kay Huneidi and Tammy Agee (and her mom) performed not only before the conference but from the beginning to the closing bell. We are also fortunate to have the consistent attendance and help from Melissa Solomon of Florida Embroidered Patches, Inc. and Gayle Greenburg of FDLE. There are many crisis's minor and major that pop up during a conference from room temperature adjustments, food delivery, transportation issues, vendor coordination and greater.
