A message from FPCA's President, Chief Richard M. Beary:
Your Participation is Vitial to Our Sccess
March 1, 1999
The 1999 Legislative Session is now open and numerous bill are moving forward. This appears to be an extremely active year for new legislation due to the new leadership in Tallahassee. Our Legislative Committee has asked each district to commit to covering a week (usually 3 to 4 days) during the session. Our ability to be available and provide testimony during House and Senate committee meetings has an impact. If we fail to provide our insight and concerns, we are often relegated to picking up the pieces and making the best of a bad law. Please contact George Aylesworth and offer your assistance during this legislative session.
Additionally, our Legislative Breakfast will be held on April 7th at the Capitol. Please make plans to attend the breakfast and spend the day meeting with your legislators, members of the Cabinet, or their staff.
Please pay particular attention to HB/157SB666. This bill proposes changes to the Law Enforcement/Correctional Officers Bill of Rights. The changes contained in this bill could severely hamper our ability to conduct internal investigations. Our Association is on the record opposing any changes to the current law. Copies of the bill and our concerns are available by contacting your District Director or our headquarters.
In closing, I know that traveling to Tallahassee is inconvenient and time-consuming, but be assured that your participation is vital to our continued success.
