April 1, 2003 Quarterly Meeting/Legislative Issues I would like to thank the District Directors who attended our quarterly board meeting on March 25 in Tallahassee. A special thanks to our District 16 chiefs: Chief David Allbritton, Chief Rick Davis, Chief Nolan McLeod , Chief Frank Osborn and Chief H. Wayne Putnal. They prepared a fantastic lunch of fried turkey, jambalaya, red velvet cake and much more. On Wednesday March 26, we held our annual Legislative Breakfast. Cingular, our premiere business partner, once again, sponsored this year's breakfast. By all accounts, it was a great success. It was well attended by legislators and their staff members. We had an opportunity to join in a press conference during the breakfast, supporting legislation making no seatbelt use a primary violation. This breakfast was a joint effort by the Florida Police Chiefs Association and the Florida Sheriffs Association, once again showing our collective support on issues. Chiefs were invited to the Sheriffs Annual Fish Fry. This gave us an additional opportunity to further strengthen our relationship with the sheriffs. I am proud to say our partnership with the sheriffs is strong and is working to unify our law enforcement voices, making us a more predominant force in Tallahassee. This legislative session is filled with many "rookie" legislators, especially in the House. It is more important than ever that we reach out to our legislators and familiarize them with our position because many have had little dealing with us in the past and may not know where we stand on the issues. As always, I thank you for your support, and please keep our troops in your prayers as they fight for freedom in the Middle East and around the globe.
