Where Did the Time Go?

I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the membership of the Florida Police Chiefs Association for allowing me the opportunity to serve as President of this professional organization for the past year. On July 3rd, Chief Roy Arigo will assume the Presidency, and I wish him well.

September 11, 2001, is a day we will remember as we do Pearl Harbor Day and other historic dates that have stunned our nation. The tragic results of these dates will never be forgotten; 9-11 has forever changed our nation.

Thanks to Executive Director Hal Robbins, Past Presidents, and board members, our association is in relatively good shape, but our focus on financial independence still needs a lot of attention. The F.P.C.A. credit card initiative is a start, but until we involve ourselves in a stronger fund raising effort similar to that of the Florida Sheriffs Association, I do not believe we will gain the financial posture we need to enable us to address all of our mandates.

I commend and thank all of the district directors, committee members, and the membership - who in spite of their busy schedules participate in an active way in supporting our association. Ideally, every Police Chief in Florida should attend our Summer and Winter Conferences and participate in our Chief Executive and Career Development Training. Every Chief should be active in their district. We get out of life what we invest, but unfortunately many Chiefs and Deputy Chiefs miss the boat and lose out on some great learning and growing experiences.

Thank you Hal Robbins, Amy Mercer, and staff for your outstanding work. Hal and Amy are a great team and do an outstanding job for our association.

Again, thank you for entrusting me to serve as your President. It certainly was one of the highlights of my career. I enjoyed working with everyone and I really appreciate your support.

Good luck President Arigo in 2002B2003.
