In last month's
message, I failed to congratulate Chief Paul Rumbley of the Palm Bay Police
Department on his selection for the President's Award and Chief Walt
McNeil of the Tallahassee Police Department, who was selected for the
Director's Choice Award. Congratulations to you both.
I am pleased to announce that Chief Jerry Demings of the Orlando Police
Department has agreed to chair the Bylaws Committee. If you would like to
serve your Association as a member of a committee, please contact Hal Robbins.
On June 22nd, I participated in the "Buckle Up Florida" Awards Program
in Kissimmee, which was hosted by Russ Arend's group from I.P.T.M.
This was a first-class presentation with over 400 participants.
Congratulations to all the officers and departments who received awards and equipment.
I also had the opportunity to attend the National Center for Missing &
Exploited Children July 14-16th in Alexandria, Virginia. This is one of
the best programs I ever attended. It certainly presents some strong
information on why we should rethink our response to missing children.
Every Chief should attend. The program is paid for through a grant.
Any Chief interested may call (703) 837-6348 for more information. This
program is worth the time and may be the most important program
you'll attend.
