Operation "Safekids"

As summer draws to a close, school has begun throughout the great State of Florida. We have been asked to partner with the sheriffs and the FDLE in an initiative called "Operation SafeKids". "SafeKids" is a proactive approach designed to reduce the risks to our children from sexual offenders and predators.

To help spread this message, the FDLE has created an informative website that can be viewed by our citizens to improve their awareness. The "SafeKids Website" can be accessed from the FDLE's main page. The website contains tips to help those in law enforcement, and links to the sexual offender data base, and other sites that provide awareness information as it relates to the exploitation of children. Please take a moment to review the information contained on this site.

Additionally, we have been asked to participate in an effort to put sexual offenders and predators behind bars. Approximately 15% of all sexual predators have outstanding warrants and/or have violated the conditions of their release. Removing offenders and predators who have demonstrated a lack of regard for the conditions of their release will clearly lessen the risk to our young people.

"Operation SafeKids" also involves our efforts to make school officials more aware of the dangers that sexual offenders and predators pose to their students. This awareness extends beyond the information on these offenders that is available to the public; it also re-enforces the need to report suspicious activity, particularly around our schools and playgrounds.

This initiative can have a direct, positive impact on the safety of our most valuable treasure, our children. I encourage each of you to become involved in this effort in the manner in which you believe best addresses the concerns in your community.
