TERRORISTS and TERRORISM

On September 27, 2001, I attended a very interesting meeting at F.D.L.E. headquarters in Tallahassee on statewide terrorism preparedness assessment. Governor Jeb Bush was present, and we spent several productive hours validating the recent military, police, fire, and civil emergency preparedness surveys on the State of Florida's vulnerability to terrorist attack. A plan generated at this and other sessions will be disseminated in the near future.

F.D.L.E. Commissioner Tim Moore chaired this important meeting and is providing the strong leadership Florida needs at this time.

The terms "terrorist" and "terrorism" will forever be a part of our vocabulary. Most of us have already attended a dozen or more meetings on the subject since September 11, 2001.

Municipal, County, State, and Federal law enforcement working together in a unified approach will be necessary to overcome the terroristic threats we face.

By the time this article is published, we should have safely returned from the I.A.C.P. Conference in Toronto. I hope our country will have made more progress in combating the Anthrax threat, Bin Laden, and the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, but this looks like just the beginning.

May God Bless America.
