Time for Reflection

As another year draws to a close, we are reminded of the special things that have brought us joy throughout the year. Our families and friends who have provided us support as we address the everyday challenges as a law enforcement executive. We have worked endless hours providing leadership and vision to our agencies, while planning to avoid future crises.

Each day continues to bring new challenges and we reflect on the actions that identify who we really are. We stayed the course when times got tough and others were skeptical. We coached and mentored, preparing others to take the helm.

I commend you all for accepting the challenges that few can comprehend, but many can criticize. Your willingness to take the risks to push your agency to the next level of service - what others view as placing your professional being at risk, you see as just doing the job you have been entrusted to do.

We are fortunate to be in a profession in which we have been chosen to lead those who challenge our vision, making it grow ever clearer in the eyes of those who pursue it. A profession in which leaders can show their heartfelt emotion in the presence of their followers, who understand the tears and the pain and know they are not signs of weakness, but signs of a compassionate leader.

I am thankful for the opportunity to serve as a law enforcement executive and thankful to serve all of you, our quality members, as the President of the Florida Police Chiefs Association.

I pray for a safe holiday season in which our communities can truly enjoy the spirit of the season, and we can share quality time with our families and loved ones.

All the best to you and your families.
