A message from FPCA's President, Chief Richard M. Beary:

IACP Conference a Great Success

December 1, 1998

The 105th Annual Conference of the International Association of Chiefs of Police was a great success. The training programs were excellent, and the Salt Lake City Police and other local agencies went out of their way to provide services to the thousands of guests. Our Annual Florida Delegation Breakfast was attended by more than 90 members and guests.

According to the six past presidents in attendance, it was the largest Florida/IACP Breakfast ever! A special thank you is in order for Jim Klein and Martin Uniforms, our sponsor. Their continued support of this annual event is truly appreciated! To all of you who attended the conference and voted in the election of officers, thank you.

As you know, Chief Joe Estey was elected Sixth Vice President of IACP. The Florida delegation played a major role in his selection. As a result, those involved in IACP leadership view Florida chiefs in a positive light.

During our delegation meeting in Salt Lake City, Tim Moore, Commissioner of FDLE, gave us an overview of the Drug Summit that was requested by the President of the Florida senate and other key members of our legislature. I encourage your participation in these events. We may have an opportunity to make significant enhancements to our drug enforcement efforts.

In closing, I want to encourage you to attend our Mid-Winter Training Conference, which will taking place from January 10-13, 1999, in Daytona Beach. The scheduled program will fulfill the mandatory Human Diversity Refresher as required by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission. Additionally, we expect another large exposition of state-of-the-art police equipment and services. For registration information, please call our headquarters or visit our Web site at www.fpca.com.

Best wishes for a safe and happy holiday season. I look forward to working with you next year.
