The Florida Police Chiefs Association is holding its 50th
Annual Summer Conference & Exposition from June 30-July 4, 2002, at the Westin Diplomat
Resort & Spa, Hollywood, Florida and you are cordially invited to attend.
Training Program ...
Chief Ed Morley, and the Training Committee are still in the process of developing the
Training Program and selecting speakers. If you have not attended a Summer Conference before you will
be quite impressed by the entire program. We will take a look at the latest in police
products and services to help us fight crime. We will also examine the Legislative
Initiatives for 2003 and will once again conclude the training with an open forum for all
participants. Overall, we are certain that you will enjoy the summer training program.
Cost ...
Preregistration cost for agency heads (FPCA members) is $300 and $350 for those
registering after May 31, 2002 or on-site. If you (as the chief executive) register for the
conference, additional command staff (FPCA members) can attend for a fee of only $250
preregistration or $300 after May 31, 2002 or on-site. Fee for Non-Member is $350 in
advance, and $400 on-site.
Activities ...
Chief Scarberry and the Broward Chiefs
Association have put together programs for the entire family. On Monday July 1st, Host
Chief Night will be a relaxing evening with entertainment, dancing, dinner and refreshments
at the Westin Diplomat Resort ( a separate youth party is planned during this time to
provide festive fun in a supervised environment. On Tuesday July 2nd, the outfield picnic
area at Pro Player Stadium has been reserved to watch the Florida Marlins host the Chicago
Cubs and dinner will be served during the game.
Other Highlights:
- Youth Programs will include Jr. Lifeguard Activities, Discovery Center, IMAX Movie, Water Taxi Ride, Airboat Excursion,
Fishing Hall of Fame as well as movies, games and fun.
- Spouse Programs will include a gaming tour and lunch at the Miccosuukee Reservation,
Boat Tour of Ft. Lauderdale and Shopping at Sawgrass Mills Outlet Mall.
- Following training and the Business Meeting on Wednesday July 3, you can participate in a golf tournament at the Westin Diplomat Golf Club or
take a deep sea fishing trip.
Attendance ...
Please remember, our room blocks for the last several summer conferences have sold out
early. We anticipate that more than 250 police executives from throughout the state will
attend the conference.

Hotel accommodations will be handled directly by the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa (phone
number above). Please mention that you are with the Florida Police Chief's Association and
be sure to call no later than May 31, 2002, to guarantee your room rate of $99 per night (based on the first 950 room

Exhibit Area ...
The latest law enforcement related products and services will be displayed by approximately
127 vendors. Hours are tentatively planned for Sunday 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (Reception
in the Exposition Area). Monday 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday 11:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. To allow you more time to meet with our
vendors, we have planned a reception and all of the coffee and food breaks to take place
within the exhibit area. Again this year, we invite you to send any of your personnel
involved in the purchasing process to view the exhibits free of charge on Monday and
Tuesday July 1&2, 2002, from 2:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
